Stars Watch
Nick Petrecki — 6'3, 215 pound Boston College defenseman
is a punishing force on the Eagles blue line. The first round draft pick of the
San Jose Sharks had a tremendous freshman year scoring two goals including the game
winning goal in overtime to capture the 2007–2008 Bean Pot title. Later that spring,
he was a force in BC's National Championship title. Nick will be a solid all around
NHL defenseman in the near future.
Zach Bogosian — 6'3, 210 pound defenseman was Mr. Everything
for the Peterborough Petes in the OHL. This past summer he was the 3rd overall pick
in the NHL by the Atlanta Thrashers and is a main stay on the Thrashers blue line.
Zach possesses an unbelievable amount of character and will be a great two way defenseman
for a long time. Zach is teamed up with former Pro Star Ron Hainsey.
Max Pacioretty — 6'3, 200 pound left wing with the Montreal
Canadiens is a tremendous young player and will be a future NHL All — Star.
The former Michigan Wolverine combines size, skill and toughness. Max scored his
first NHL goal on his first shot, in his first game this year. Max is a great young
man and is a teammate of another Pro Star favorite Tom Kostopoulos and Chris Higgins.
Matt Lashoff – 6'2, 205 pound defenseman is playing regularly with
the Boston Bruins and provides a lot of offense on the back end for the B's. The
smooth skating first round draft pick is a very talented and all around defenseman
and has a bright future in the NHL. Congratulations to his brother Brian Lashoff
who was recently named captain of the Kingston Frontenacs by Coach Doug Gilmour.
The former Pro Star recently signed a contract with the Detroit red Wings.
Congratulations to Jimmy Hayes (Boston College) and Kevin Shattenkirk
(Boston University) for their selection to the US World Junior Team. Kevin was an
assistant captain in his second tour with the team. Hayes is a 2nd round pick of
the Maple Leafs and Shattenkirk is a 1st round pick of the Avalanche. Kevin
Hayes will join his older brother Jimmy at Boston College in a few
years. The smooth skating playmaker from Nobles and Greenough accepted a full scholarship
and will be at the heights soon. Freshman David Warsofsky (Boston
University) recently made the All-Tournament Team at Denver University's Christmas
Tournament. The former NTDP U-18 captain is playing great for the Terriers and is
one of the most talented players ever at Pro Star and look for him in the NHL with
the St. Louis Blues. Warsofsky's best friend Ryan Bourque is excelling
in Ann Arbor and will be in the UNH line up next season. Along with Warsofsky he
will be remembered as on of the top Pro Star alumni. Good Luck to Mike Cichy
on choosing North Dakota University.
Good Luck to Andy Iles on choosing the "Big Red" of Cornell as
his college commitment. He narrowed it down from Harvard, UNH and BC. The amazing
goaltender is #1 in his class at The Salisbury School in Connecticut and is a very
special young man. His former teammate John Knisely has also chosen
Cornell in 2010. Brandon Russo an excellent defenseman from the
Mid-Fairfield Blues organization is having a solid year at Salisbury along with
fellow Pro Star's Max Edson, Billy Fitzgerald,
Gunner Hughes, Kyle Hughes and Adam Platt.
In addition, former LA Selects Matt Nieto and Shane Sooth
are also Pro Star/Salisbury alumni excelling in Ann Arbor. They are being recruited
by several of the top Division I programs in the country. Another former Pro Star
goalie doing great is USNTDP U-17 goalie and Univ. of Michigan recruit Jack
Campbell. Big Marcus McCrea is having a good year
in the WHL with the Everett Silvertips.
The Syracuse Stars are continuing to produce top players, EJHL All- Stars Mike
Montagna will attend the University of Vermont in 2011 and teammate
Joey Wilson is sorting through several Division I scholarship offers.
Shane Prince is playing in the OHL with the Kitchener Rangers and
Dan Ford will attend Harvard. Also, 1994 Coach Steve Cibelli does
a great job developing his players on and off the ice as does 1997 Stars Coach
Terry Kirwan.
